Suggestions for Clothing

Suggested Clothing for Nazarene Hospital, Kudjip

We first want you to understand that the culture is conservative for women. Men are not as conservative however we want to keep the dress for men nice.

Ø The weather here will be in the mid 60’s at night and 80 to 85 during the day.

Ø Bring Suntan lotion, you are close to the sun here and will burn very quickly.

Ø Clothes without word captions or jokes on them. Sport clothing is expectable. The clothing should be light weight and breathable. Clothing should be comfortable and lose fitting.

Ø A light jacket or sweatshirt in the evenings is welcomed, plan on layers of clothing for warmth. When it gets hot remove a layer. When it gets cold add a layer. Don’t over do on the clothes. Plan on wearing items several times while here.

Ø Washer will be available on site. You may not have a dryer and will hang clothes outside.

Ø Keep in mind weight! When you travel from the U.S. you can bring 2 – 50lb bags to PNG but will most likely end up paying for extra weight for the flight from Pt. Moresby to Mt. Hagen. Air New Guinea only allows 1 bag at 44 lbs (22kg). Sometimes a charge and sometimes not a charge just depends.

The following list of suggestions will help you prepare when coming to the Nazarene Hospital - Kudjip.

If you go to play basketball, it is okay to wear shorts under your skirt, and when you get to the court, you can take off the skirt. Same for swimming, wear skirt over shorts until you get there. If you go to another missionaries house – you can wear pants underneath your skirt and remove your skirt when you get there.
